Another run, another group

I will not accept the excuses that the dogs are now faster and have outrun the Siberians, that the Siberian is essentially a long distance plodder. In their heydey the Siberians outran and outlasted all comers. The fastest of those Siberians could have run with the best of the present dogs.

–Dr. Roland Lombard from a paper reprinted in the ISHC 3rd Edition The Siberian Husky on Siberian Workability

This is also my observation and belief. It is exceedingly difficult to prove but it’s worth trying. Click on the picture for video.

First run of 2011

Pete_Nils.jpg

So we’ve started training for the third time this winter. First run of 2011. I’m going to try and get pictures of all my dogs running. This video making is going to be a lot of trial and error as I experiment with the settings and light levels. It looks like the Lupine spot has to be kept over their heads or the dogs end up washed out.

Photogenic we are. There is no better race to lend your image to. Put your mouse to the left and halfway down the main image if you don’t see the dogs immediately.

Welcome to Fairbanks

My daughter, Lisbet, just flew into Fairbanks. She took this picture of the picture in the airport welcoming everyone to town. There’s no question that the general public likes to see the Siberians but it really annoys some of the hound drivers. So be it.

Dog food is expensive but sometimes it’s just fun to pass it out.

Pebbles got loose in early January. In late February it seemed like Echo wasn’t driving as hard as she normally does. Also Kari thought I had her too fat. We were caught by surprise but it’s not a bad breeding, merely bad timing. It looks like a crazy bunch in a good way.

I don’t know how most people feed their pups but this is how we do it and what we normally see.
SPEED IS ALWAYS GOOD.

First Solid Food

Posting from my phone works. Whether that will translate into more updates remains to be seen.

This is Echo’s litter enjoying their first solid food. They are 25 days old.
